Smiling woman with a Continuous Glucose Monitor

Curious about Continuous Glucose Monitors? –  Here’s everything you need to know!

Learn all about how you can use this tool to optimize your health!

What’s a CGM?

I’m sure you’ve seen people wearing this little white device on their arm. Originally CGMs (Continuous Glucose Monitors) were designed for diabetics, but more and more people are excited about using this biohacking tool to find out how their blood sugar fluctuates throughout their day.

I promise it’s super easy to use! All you have to do is apply the CGM onto your arm and together with an app on your phone, you’re ready to track your blood sugar.

That means you’re getting real-time data on your lifestyle choices, individual situation, food, and sleep – all of which affect your blood sugar levels. You can track your blood sugar responses to stressful events. For example, you’ve got a big presentation coming up and you’re feeling nervous, that might affect your blood sugar levels.

Most people use CGMs for 2 – 4 weeks, but that’s only a tiny snapshot of your metabolic health.

I recommend tracking blood sugar for at least 6-weeks so that you can find out what works for you and your body. That’s when you can start to optimize your health. This way you’re able to implement longer-lasting and sustainable changes to your lifestyle.

Is blood sugar instability at the root of your hormone woes?

Find out if blood sugar imbalance could be at the root of your fatigue, brain fog, cravings, moodiness, increasing stress, hair loss, period or skin problems, expanding waistline — & more!

Why it’s important to have real-time data from  CGMs

Ideally, we want our blood sugar to be as stable as possible. That means data from a CGM shouldn’t look like a roller coaster, but like gentle small waves. Eating foods with a high amount of sugar, like candy or refined carbohydrates, tend to create blood sugar spikes (which give you that roller coaster pattern!).

Constantly spiking your blood sugar leads to inflammation within the body, which creates a host of health problems in the long run. Studies have shown that treating inflammation can manage diabetes, because blood glucose and inflammation responses are closely linked.

Constant high blood sugar can lead to obesity and difficulty in losing weight.

Besides food, lifestyle habits can also cause blood sugar spikes. Your body’s natural ability to manage and normalize your blood sugar levels is affected by poor sleep and stress. Additional factors such as your menstrual cycle, the supplements you take, exercise patterns and so much more can be tracked to see what impacts your blood sugar.

It’s life-changing to see immediate data from CGMs and tailor your lifestyle and habits to stabilize your blood sugar.

Why we want to avoid inflammation

Inflammation is at the root of many health issues. We know that acne, brain fog, anxiety, and depression have been linked to inflammation. The same goes for weight gain and an inability to lose weight. Inflammation interferes with the production of the hormone leptin which regulates our metabolism and controls appetite.

Ideally, we want to have as little inflammation as possible.

Luckily there are steps you can take to reduce inflammation! Things that can help include reducing stress, mindfulness practices, and changes in food habits. Check out these cool anti-inflammatory foods!

The benefits of using a Continuous Glucose Monitor

Using a CGM means getting real-time data that allows you to adjust habits and food choices so that they work for your unique body. You get an insight into how your body responds to food types, events, and lifestyle habits.

That means you can personalize your diet to work for you instead of following the latest trends because you know which foods work best to keep your blood sugar levels stable!

For me, a liver cleanse works wonders to keep my blood sugar stable for weeks! These are things you only find out, when you’re actively collecting data. (My liver cleanses are now scheduled for once a year!)

Using CGMs successfully also leads to stabilized blood sugar levels at night, which creates more restorative sleep. This means you have more energy when you wake up and throughout the day and who doesn’t want to wake up from sleep feeling completely rested?

With the help of all that nifty data, you can learn all kinds of cool stuff, including how many hours of sleep work best to keep your blood sugar stable throughout the day.

Everything in our lives affects our blood sugar. CGMs allows you to put together a routine that works for your individual body, or tweak small parts of your current routines for amazing blood sugar and overall health.

In my signature Better Balance Blueprint program, I journey with you and a group of wonderful women for 12 weeks. By looking at our CGM data, implementing changes, getting feedback, and reassessing we find a unique blueprint that works wonderfully for you and your body.
